Early Days of YouTube
YouTube was founded on February 14, 2005, by three former PayPal employees: Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. The idea for the platform was born out of a difficulty in finding and sharing videos online. The first video ever uploaded to YouTube was a 19-second video titled 'Me at the zoo,' uploaded by co-founder Jawed Karim on April 23, 2005.
- In the early days, YouTube focused on user-generated content, allowing users to upload, share, and view videos.
- The platform quickly gained popularity, and by July 2006, YouTube had already reached 100 million unique visitors per month.
YouTube's Evolution
In October 2006, YouTube was acquired by Google for $1.65 billion in stock. This acquisition helped YouTube expand its capabilities, improve video quality, and increase its user base.
- Today, YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world, with over 2 billion monthly active users.
- The platform has evolved into a global community where creators can share their content, and viewers can discover new videos, channels, and trends.
