Early Days of YouTube
YouTube was founded on February 14, 2005, by three former PayPal employees: Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. The idea for the platform was born out of a difficulty in finding and sharing videos online. At the time, video-sharing platforms were scarce, and existing ones were often plagued by technical issues and limited content.
- The first YouTube video, titled 'Me at the zoo,' was uploaded on April 23, 2005.
- It featured co-founder Jawed Karim at the San Diego Zoo.
YouTube's Rise to Prominence
In October 2006, YouTube was acquired by Google for $1.65 billion in stock. This acquisition marked a significant turning point for the platform, providing it with the resources and support needed to expand its user base and improve its infrastructure.
By 2007, YouTube had become one of the fastest-growing websites on the internet, with millions of users uploading and sharing videos every day. Today, YouTube is the largest video-sharing platform in the world, with over 2 billion monthly active users.
